A microscope is a tool used for observing bacteria and viruses. It is widely used in the forensic examination, hospitals, ecological testing and in schools. Most of the problems that are observed when you are handling the microscope are due to poor maintenance practices.
If you buy a microscope in Singapore, you should keep it in a proper working condition so that it can serve the purpose that is intended. The purpose of this article is to provide information on the ways through which you can maintain a microscope.
1. Microscope Safety Instructions
If the microscope is not in use, then make sure you have covered it with a dust cover to extend the life of the tool. Every microscope comes with a user manual and you should carefully read the manual before making any adjustment on the machine.
The instructions for handling different types of microscopes can be different. Make sure you keenly read the instructions and avoid assumptions. Regardless of the number of microscopes you have handled previously, check on the instructions.
Avoid disassembling the microscope as that may cause damage to the microscope or shock. If the microscope fails to work, call someone who is specialized in repairing the microscope so that they can repair it. Do not carry it out yourself as you may further destroy it.
Always lift the microscope with two hands. One hand should be on the arm of the microscope while the other should hold the base.
2. How to Clean the Lens?
The microscope lens should be frequently cleaned. Avoid sharp instruments while cleaning the lens. Use a moistened lens paper with a lens cleaning solution. Also, try to follow the circular motion that is in the lens.
If dust is seen near the eyepiece, remove the eyepiece from the microscope. If it has multiple lenses, you should avoid taking the eyepiece apart. If you want to use a liquid in cleaning the eyepiece, always use distilled water.
The surface and the stage underside of the specimen should always be clean. Dust should also be cleaned off using the soft brush or the pressurized air. Make sure you have dried out all the surfaces after cleaning. Do not keep it wet.
3. Appropriate Handling
There is a large number of mechanisms that are available under the microscope such as the mechanical stage controls and the focusing controls which are usually fragile. If you handle the microscope in a bad way, then they will be damaged.
Make sure you store it in a dry place at all times. If there is a humid or moist environment, store the microscope in a waterproof container with the appropriate drying agent.
Avoid storing the microscope in direct sunlight as it will influence the quality of the specimen or the image when you are observing it.
After cleaning the microscope, make sure you have correctly positioned it by lining up with the 10x objective when storing it. Also, adjust the illumination and the under the 40x and then 100x.
The above practices should be followed when you buy a microscope in Singapore to make sure it stays durable.
