Many people, including myself, get tired of a stagnant and monotonous routine. One has to keep it exciting and something to look forward to. No matter how entertaining and versatile it happens to be, the repetitive routine would still get boring at some point.

One can use the internet and explore its multifaceted spheres – it is THAT huge! If we only talk about one website, let’s say, YouTube, it is said that it takes us 1000 years to watch all the videos posted on it.

According to some studies, only four major websites such as Facebook, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft carry around 1.2 million terabytes on the entire internet (and one terabyte is equaled to 1,000 gigabytes, on which internet prices are based).

Here are some interesting ideas to overcome boredom on the internet:

1. Manage your emails.

Once you realize you are getting bored and don’t want to indulge in any long-term activity on the internet or start to feel you do not have anything interesting to do, start organizing your emails. My personal favorite activity is sorting emails.

Most of us have more than one email accounts — professional and personal – and the amount of emails that get neglected due to our own languorousness is unbelievable. What I do is I make separate folders for important emails like promotions, discounts, banking notifications, job alerts, etc.

while I dump the rest in the junk box. It seems like it is not time-consuming but in reality, it takes hours to sort my email boxes. Sometimes you’d find yourself deleting thousands of emails.

It is, indeed, a complete job in itself. Whenever you want to kill time, you can spend it more productively by managing your emails.

2. Brainstorm

Remember that idea you once had that never made it? Now could be the right time to bring it up, research on it and seriously consider bringing it to life.

Think about all those unfinished ideas and plans, could be a hobby you wanted to adopt or something you want to do with your life, could be anything you did in childhood which later you couldn’t continue due to your busy schedules.

When you have leisure time on the internet, you can learn singing, baking, applying makeup, writing a blog post, or starting something entirely new. Most of the successful people are successful because they invested in their interest and passion.

3. Start Writing a Blog!

We all have various interests, even if writing is not your primary interest you can still start a blog that is all about photography or creative animations. Great news for those who love to write, have strong opinions on culture or art to share with the world!

If you like writing reviews or commenting on celebrities, fashion trends, or discuss world politics, sports, or social issues, the blog is your way of livelihood!

What bloggers mostly do is share a random picture captured with a background story or an interesting thought, a review of a product or a place-visited. Start your blog and never get bored again! Share your life with others! You can also make your own website blog on wix.com, BlogSpot, WordPress or Tumblr.

4. Create an Account on Friend Site

Whenever we check our newsfeeds on social media accounts like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, or Twitter, we get so engaged that we can’t get bored even if we want to. If you do not have any social media account, make one right now.

Ask your friends to follow or add you so you can see them as well. Meet new people and explore the world! You can also make friends from outside your city, country or continent and stay connected to see whatever they are up to.

5. Watch something new

We all take out time to watch our favorite movies, explore a new TV series on websites like Hulu. If you are done with Netflix then watching movies and series may not be something you are looking for.

Try YouTube then. There are billions of videos to watch on YouTube, ranging from hilarious reviews of food to heartwarming animations. If you want to learn something, YouTube has almost everything in tutorial form or someone explaining to it.

6. Explore Online Stores

Look around your favorite online store and shop! Don’t have money? Add to cart and pay through VISA card! Marketplaces sites such as eBay, Ali Express, and Amazon are great options, to begin with.

Explore the shops and sections you are interested in. Add the things you like to your cart or buy instantly something that you need. Shopping will make you feel happy, nevertheless.

7. Make A Video and Publish it.

Most of us have already tried our video editing skills on Windows Movie Maker so why not explore that skill once again if given the opportunity.

If you don’t have any video content on you, download content from YouTube or any source you could find to recreate something out of that. Change the background music, theme or speeds and then upload the final version to your channel.

Create a news or history report, makeover tutorials, funny moments from presidential speeches, experiment with a music or dancing videos by adding another music in its background – the ideas are never-ending! Add a voice-over to make it more interesting and BAM! You can share your content with your friends via your channel or social media account! Make sure you are not violating the copyrights; give disclaimer if needed and reference of the content you are using from.

Edit the video content in iMovie, Adobe Premier or Final Cut Pro. You never know, you end up starting a new career if you work on your editing skills! In any case, you get a very productive pastime.

Even if we claim to be nerds or scientists, creativity gratifies our soul. Creativity and boredom are interlinked. The Internet is a creative world even if you are not an artist.

We all are creating something online. If not anything visible or significant, due to our social media presence, our impact on the internet is undeniable. Read or research all the sides of the internet: marketplaces, gaming sites, movie and series, discussion forums such as Yahoo or Quora.

Everything we see on our search engines or newsfeed is made for us and from us i.e. the internet users. There are experts on the other end, trying every day to entertain every single visitor, buyer – their audience.

Therefore, we need to come with ideas so as to explore the online world. This is how we can get the maximum out of it, fulfilling our curiosity and killing our boredom along with it.
