How to Be More Motivated

How often do you set goals for yourself? Better yet, how often do you stay motivated enough to turn that goal into a reality? Do you often find yourself setting goals that never truly evolve into results? Don’t worry; this is something most people face throughout their life — you’re not alone.

Motivation is defined as the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. It’s the reason or reasons an individual has for acting or behaving in a certain way. It might sound like a readily available feature, but it’s something most people lack and some never truly obtain.

A lack of motivation is one of the primary reasons people don’t achieve what they set out to become. It has become an epidemic that takes all enjoyment out of an individual’s life and makes them feel like they’re not worthy in life. It can be the beginning of an end to so many.

So, how can you be more motivated?

Motivation is directly influenced by three major things — how much you want that goal, what you will gain from that goal, and what you expect from that goal. It’s important because it gives you something to work towards, helps you change old habits, and enables you to cope with challenges.

Unfortunately, too many people struggle to get or stay motivated when needed the most — especially those living with mental health issues, such as depression or anxiety. The good news is there are ways to motivate yourself better and keep yourself on track daily.

Let’s take a look at five of our most prominent ways to be more motivated daily:

1. Set the Right Goals for Yourself

The first step in getting motivated and staying motivated is making sure you’re getting the right goals for yourself. Many people struggle with this because they don’t honestly know what they want to accomplish. When you don’t see what you want, you often won’t get it.

Instead of mindlessly setting goals for yourself and hoping you achieve them, take a step back and take a moment to learn a little more about yourself. Ask yourself what it is you want out of life and what it’ll take to accomplish that. After a while, you’ll start to achieve a sense of direction.

Once you determine what you want, you’ll notice that you have a little more motivation to get started. The more you devote yourself to the things you’re passionate about, the easier it’ll be to keep yourself motivated as time goes on. Just remember that motivation often lives on passion.

2. Find Ways to Measure Your Progress

Now that you’ve set the right goals for yourself, the next important step is making sure those goals are easily measurable. At any given point, you need to be able to measure your progress, so you know how far you’ve come, but also how much farther you have until it’s accomplished.

There are several different ways you can measure your progress. One of the best ways is by starting a journal and adding to it every time you inch one step closer to that end goal. Even if it’s something small, write it down so you can read it over later and feel a sense of accomplishment.

For example, let’s say your goal is to find a job or career that you enjoy. It would help if you wrote in your journal every time you apply for a job that fits your life’s description. Write a note every time you receive a callback or go for an interview — until you finally get the job you’ve wanted.

3. Break Your Goal Up Into Smaller Goals

One of the biggest culprits to a lack of motivation is setting goals that are too large to stay motivated long-term. It’s not that these significant goals are unattainable or the wrong goals, but rather that we struggle to stay true to those goals because they take so long to accomplish.

You can work around this by breaking up your significant or long-term goals into smaller, more attainable goals. This not only helps keep you motivated as you accomplish each of those smaller goals, but it gives you an easy way to measure your progress long-term.

This is something you can do with any of your goals — no matter how small or large they are. It helps keep you on your toes and is an excellent way to be more motivated as you reach your true potential. Every time you accomplish a smaller goal, you’ll feel good about yourself!

4. Stay Positive & Avoid Negativity

Anytime you set a goal for yourself, it’s essential to prepare yourself for some of the challenges, roadblocks, or obstacles you’ll encounter along the way. No one is perfect, and you will make mistakes whenever you set out on a journey, but that shouldn’t discourage you from anything.

The key here is to avoid negativity and stay positive 100% of the way. When a mistake or obstacle is encountered, don’t let it bring you down and don’t give up yourself. If you find yourself facing resistance, use it as extra motivation to fight through and eventually overcome it.

When you start to feel down, remember why you set that goal or start this journey. Remind yourself how important the goal is and how much it means to you. That will often give you all the motivation you need to continue stepping and moving forward.

5. Utilize Your Support Group When Needed

One thing that can help you with your journey in life has a strong support group by your side everywhere you go. Not only will they help keep you motivated when things get tough, but they always make you feel good by celebrating with you when a goal is accomplished.

The great thing about having a support group is it can consist of just about anyone, so long as they’re someone you can trust. This includes family members, friends, co-workers, like-minded individuals, followers on social media, therapists, doctors, and anyone else you can keep close.

When you have a support group, you should always make sure to let them on your goals. That way, they can keep you on your toes by checking in on your progress and keeping you motivated as you move forward in life. Once the goal is reached, it’s time to celebrate with them!

Motivation Starts From Within But Doesn’t End There.

Motivation is tough to obtain and even harder to maintain. When you can find it within yourself, you can start to use it to your advantage and set out to achieve everything you’ve ever wanted in life. It starts from within, but it reciprocates to those around you, as well.

For those struggling to find that motivation or struggling to stay motivated long-term. There are ways to help reverse that, and one of the best ways is through motivational enhancement therapy. To learn more about that, contact BetterHelp.
